A new form of commerce is emerging. One that requires no bricks – but does need a physical address, legitimacy and a place for mail delivery.

The Rise Of The Distributed Business

Today’s entrepreneurs aren’t just working from home. They’re creating companies that are remote-first.

Think about it…

A SaaS founder with contractors overseas. A coach with clients across five states. An ecommerce entrepreneur running her Shopify store on her laptop. They don’t need corner offices.

But they DO need:

Most entrepreneurs don’t require an office space daily. Occasionally, however, you may need to meet with a client. Day-pass coworking spaces are perfect for these occasions.

When you combine all of the above… You end up with something that looks and feels like a “real” company. And all this without paying for an actual office.

Building A Workplace That Actually Fits Your Business

Here’s the thing most people miss…

Your business should work for you. Where you work should NOT. Entrepreneurs sign massive leases for office spaces all the time, simply because they feel like they should be. Not because it’s beneficial to their business.

Before you commit, ask yourself a few questions:

  • Where do your team members actually reside? If they are dispersed, an office won’t physically co-locate them. It will breed resentment.
  • What do your clients expect? Some want a fancy lobby. Most don’t.
  • What is the cheapest way to appear professional? A physical street address, a virtual phone number and a clean website will get you 90% of the way there.
  • How frequently do you require physical space? “A few times a month” = You don’t need an office. You need flexibility.

Answer those honestly, and the right setup usually becomes obvious.

The Bottom Line

The definition of “workplace” will never be the same. It’s not a place you go to. It’s an infrastructure you create.
