FOUNDING STORY & AUTHOR HISTORY

United Business Mag is led and founded by Jonathan “Jon” McAlister, an American business journalist and entrepreneur whose professional journey directly shaped the publication’s mission and direction.

Jon McAlister

Jonathan McAlister was born in Denver, Colorado in 1981. His interest in business analysis and journalism formed early, inspired by the mornings he spent watching his father—an accountant—review financial newspapers at the family kitchen table. These daily observations sparked a curiosity for markets, economic behavior, and the dynamics of entrepreneurship.

Driven by this early exposure, Jonathan pursued formal education in business and enrolled at The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, where he completed a Bachelor of Science in Economics with a concentration in Markets and Consumer Analytics. His academic foundation strengthened his analytical approach and expanded his understanding of financial systems, competitive strategy, and media’s role in shaping public knowledge.

After graduating in 2003, Jonathan returned to Colorado and began his career as a junior reporter at a small regional business publication. Over time, he developed a reputation for clear, accurate reporting and an ability to explain complex business concepts in practical terms. Over the next decade, his work covered small business development, capital markets, local innovation ecosystems, and national economic trends. His strong editorial perspective eventually led him to the position of Senior Business Editor at a major online publication by 2015.

Despite career success, Jonathan became increasingly aware of a widening gap in business media. Much of the industry catered either to corporate leaders or financial insiders, leaving millions of small and mid-market entrepreneurs underserved. Mainstream coverage rarely focused on the operational challenges of real business owners, nor did it provide accessible, unbiased information without heavy sponsorship influence.

Recognizing this gap, Jonathan decided to create his own publication. In 2018, he began assembling the foundation for United Business Mag, an independent digital magazine dedicated to delivering business intelligence with complete transparency, practical usefulness, and a strong commitment to editorial ethics. He self-funded the initial development, structured a distributed editorial team, invested in research-backed content frameworks, and officially launched the website in early 2019.

United Business Mag quickly attracted attention due to Jonathan’s unwavering editorial principles:

  • Data-driven reporting instead of subjective speculation.
  • Accessibility for readers without formal business backgrounds.
  • Coverage centered on real American entrepreneurs—not only Silicon Valley successes.
  • No hidden advertorials, no pay-for-placement articles, and no compromised sourcing.

Today, unitedbusinessmag.com remains fully operated under Jonathan’s leadership. The publication continues to grow as a trusted source for entrepreneurs seeking grounded, actionable, and unbiased business knowledge across industries.

United Business Mag reflects Jonathan McAlister’s belief that business journalism should empower—not overwhelm—and that every entrepreneur deserves access to credible insights that support long-term success.
